Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles - unboxing core box of heroes

Hi,
In this post I want to tell you more about the board game and I'll show you unboxing of heroes box from the Core Set.

Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles is a scenario-based miniatures board game. Scenarios are designed for 1 hero, 2 heroes or 3 heroes. In this game we play as heroes of the Dark Knight's team or his allies, except for one player. This player controls villains and takes over the role of the game master. Every scenario dictates us which hero we can choose to play. Players can control one or more heroes. This means that even scenario with 3 heroes, can be played by 2 people: first one controls villains, second one controls all the heroes.

On the photos below I marked folded corners. In total, there are 3 folded corners in the heroes's box. They aren't very damaged, but it spoils the appearance. Fortunately none of the pieces of game are destroyed, but it could be better prepared for such a long transport.

When we opened the box, the first thing we can see is the poster, which was added as a stretch goal.

Next we see Rulebook and Missions booklet.

Then we see box of miniatures and place for Energy cubes, Dices and Cards.

Underneath are placed the Bat-tables and Hero screens.

At the bottom of the box there are boards.

The box of miniatures contains models, which were in the core box from the beginning and all the heroes from the stretch goals.

In the box of heroes, we get miniatures of:
  • Batman
  • Catwoman
  • Robin Tim Drake
  • Batgirl Barbara Gordon
  • Nightwing
  • The Huntress
  • Commissioner Gordon

The stretch goals of heroes include miniatures of:
  • Red Hood
  • Damian Wayne
  • Orphan
  • Batman The Dark Knight
  • Batman Zero Year
  • Renee Montoya
  • Harvey Bullock
  • Batwoman
  • Bluebird
  • Catwoman The Long Halloween
  • Black Canary
  • Green Arrow
  • Katana
  • Azrael
  • Batman Year 100
  • Duke
  • Spoiler

From The Allies we get:
  • 4 models of GCPD Handgun

  • 4 models of GCPD Batan
  • 4 models of SWAT Briefcase

  • 4 models of SWAT Rifle
  • 4 models of Drones Turret

The stretch goals of allies include 4 models of Guards and Batcow. In the box we also get miniatures of civilians, that means 4 models of citizens and 4 models of by-standers.

The quality of models isn't as good as Game Workshop's miniatures. Taking into account that it is a board game, the quality isn't bad. When we compare this to Cry Havoc, they are much more better. I think that quality is similar to Imperial Assault. Although some miniatures in details are even better. However as you can see on some photos, here and there will be a scalpel or Green stuff needed. On some models there are big plastic moldlines, which will be removed by scalpel. On the other ones, they have big gaps, which will be filled by Green stuff. Yesterday I ordered a Magic-sculpt from Green Stuff World, which will be perfect for this work.

The box also contains:
  • 46 Energy Cubes - which we spent on actions
  • 3 Hero Bat-tablets - it is a place for our hero screen

  • 25 Hero screens - which contain information about heroes

  • 2 double sided boards (Bank, Subway, Warehouse, Ace Chemicals)

  • 46 Equipment cards - which we can attach to our Bat-tablet

  • 24 Bat-gadgets cards - which we also enclose to Bat-tablet only for Dark Knight's team.

  • 20 Dice - 4 yellow, 4 orange, 4 red, 4 black, 4 white
  • Missions booklet with 23 scenarios + 1 scenario for Batmobile - divided  for 1 to 3 heroes, which can be controlled by 1 - 3 players

  • Rulebook

After unboxing I know that box of miniatures we will have to be replaced. In the original one, the models overlap each other, which is unacceptable for painted miniatures. On the other hand the boards have nice details and are made of thick cardboard.

After the first game I will tell you more about elements of this box.

  1. Looks gorgeous! I wonder that are minis like plastic or more like resin in touch? If I were you I would try primer on one base (covering with some tape or paper rest of mini) to check how it works on this material.

Besides that, all content in box are amazing. There are a lot of stuff which looks like it in very good quality, that polish versions of some board games will never achive.

    1. Definetely plastic, something like products from Fantasy Flight Games, and besides they showed painted minis during Campaign so I assume they are primer safe ;)
